South Northumberland Cricket Club will then host The Hundred – Women’s Competition match between Danni Hazell’s Northern Superchargers and Oval Invincibles two days later.

Durham Crickets Lead High Performance Coach, James Franklin, said: “We are all looking forward to next season.

“We felt that we made some big improvements with a young squad and a lot of home-grown talent last season and we will be looking to take things to the next level in 2020.

“The squad is shaping up nicely and we expect to be competing across all formats.”

Durham begin the County Championship season away to Sussex on Easter Sunday before hosting their first four-day match at Emirates Riverside on Sunday, April 19 against relegated Nottinghamshire.

Australia opener Cameron Bancroft will return to the north east to captain the Club next summer and the quest to make a return to Division One will end against Notts at Trent Bridge from Tuesday, September 22.

Durham’s opening-night Blast derby with Yorkshire Vikings will grab the attention with young guns such as opener Scott Steel ready to prove their rising status. Durham will play four consecutive home matches from June 10-21 before ending against Northants Steelbacks at Emirates Riverside on Sunday, July 12.

Durham begin the Royal London Cup away to Sussex on Sunday, July 19 – after a warm-up match against Lincolnshire at Grantham two days earlier – with the home opener on Tuesday, July 21 against Gloucestershire.

Durham will get its first taste of the new The Hundred tournament when South Northumberland Cricket Club hosts a Northern Superchargers team featuring two stars of women’s cricket in England international Lauren Winfield and Australia wicketkeeper-batter Alyssa Healy.

The Superchargers will be coached by Durham’s former England World Cup winner Danni Hazell.
