Durham claim win at The Racecourse

Stokes picked up the first wicket of the day when Luc Durandt was caught behind on 23.  Chris Jones fell foul to Liam Plunkett on 23 as the University reached 67-2.

University captain Tom Westley was the first of Ian Blackwell’s victims when he was bowled outright for just 3.  Greg Smith (28) was the first of two run outs in the University innings, with the honours going to Ben Stokes in this instance.

Scott Borthwick’s efforts were eventually rewarded with a wicket when Luke Blackaby was caught in the slips by Gordon Muchall for 4.

The hosts were 123-6 once Rishab Shah was out lbw to Blackwell for 12.   His replacement, Jamie Atkinson partnered Shan Masood long enough to register a fifty partnership but was trapped lbw by Stokes when he was on 34.

Chris Roper and Max Scarr both failed to get of the mark with the first caught behind off Stokes and the latter run out by Chris Rushworth.  The last man in didn’t contribute to the total and was trapped lbw by Stokes handing Durham victory by an innings and 44 runs.
