Durham opener Michael Di Venuto top scored in Durham’s first innings as he contributed a magnificent 184.

After scoring 406 all out in their first innings to claim maximum batting points Durham pushed to take advantage of this strong position. Graham Onions picked up his first Five wicket haul of teh year as Yorkshire were all out for only 194. Stephen Harmison picked up a 3 wicket haul and Mark Davies picked up the remaining wicket.

Durham decided not to enforce the following on but to further press home their lead. Dale Benkenstein 86 not out and Michael Di Venuto 45 not out helped Durham to 205-6 before Benkenstein decided to declare leaving half an hour play before tea.

Durham made the breakthrough in only the second over of Yorkshires innings as Graham Onions trapped Lyth lbw in front. Onions and Harmison combined to cause Yorkshire batsmen all sorts of trouble. At tea Onions had also removed McGrath and Rudolph for ducks. Stephen Harmison then had Gale caught behind by Mustard as Yorkshire look in trouble at 31-4

Durham County Cricket Club Head Coach Geoff Cook has named a thirteen man squad for this week’s LV County Championship match against Yorkshire.
