The Durham bowlers were after his wicket but he continued to torment them in the first hour of play until spinner Ryan Buckley dismissed him lbw for 166 in the 116th over.
It wasn’t long after when Buckley got his second wicket of the morning when Collingwood took a good catch to dismiss Trego for 42.
Mark Wood continued a good period for Durham when he had Meschede caught behind for 12 leaving Somerset 408-8.
The tail continued to wag for Somerset until Scott Borthwick got two wickets in two balls to firstly dismiss Overton for 24 with Richardson taking the catch and then the wicket of Dockrell (31) to bowl Somerset out for 458.
Durham began their innings steadily and lost the wicket of Jennings in the first hour when he went for 15 in the 12th over.
Opener Mark Stoneman and Scott Borthwick then combined for a superb 102 run parntership with both men surpassing 50 before Borthwick was dismissed for 56 leaving Durham 140-2.
Stoneman continued on at the crease with Will Smith and it looked as though Durham would end the day with the visitors 2 wickets down until Smith was dismissed on the final ball of the day for 7. Stoneman was unbeaen on 78 with Durham 163-3 at the close of Day 2.
