Durham beat MFC over 18 holes

Teams of four, two from each sport, battled it out over the fairways, with the title of the inaugural golfing champions up for grabs.

Those turning out for Durham included Mark Davies, Dale Benkenstein, Callum Thorp, Gordon Muchall, Academy Coach, John Windows and physio, Nigel Kent.  There was also a special appearance by the current England bowling coach, Ottis Gibson, who turned out for his former county.  Leading the representatives from Middlesbrough FC was captain Gary O’Neil, supported by Colin Cooper and Alan Johnson as well as the playing staff.

Once the points were tallied up Durham were named the winners having scored 228, picking up 19 more points than MFC.

Gordon Muchall was the best individual player, scoring 36 points, with Gary O’Neil coming a close second with 32 points.  Ottis Gibson picked up the prize for the Longest Drive and Gary O’ Neil managed to get the ball closest to the pin.

The Durham lads returned to Riverside victorious and will certainly look forward to playing to retain the title next year!
