Ds Abroad: Mustard and Rogers in the runs Down Under and Minto shines for England Under 19s

With pre-season now underway many of the Durham squad are spending their winter in sunnier climates playing overseas. 

A regular feature on the Durham website throughout the winter will be recapping how the Durham players get on.

Brydon Carse has touched down in Colombo ahead of England’s white ball series against Sri Lanka. The tour which includes three One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and three IT20s kicks off this Thursday at R Premadasa Stadium, Colombo.

Ben McKinney is currently in Chennai for an England Lions winter development camp. The England Lions development programme group flew to Chennai earlier this week and will use the next 11 days as an opportunity to work on spin and batting in India.

Katherine Fraser and Scotland get their T20 World Cup Qualifiers underway this week in Nepal with games against The Netherlands, Zimbabwe, Thailand and hosts Nepal with Scotland among ten teams fighting for four spots at the 2026 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in England next summer.

Haydon Mustard helped Murdoch University Melville Cricket Club to a seven wicket win over Balcatta Cats in the first round of the T20 Division One Cup. Balcatta Cats batted first and were dismissed for 126 inside 19 overs as Mustard enjoyed a catch and a stumping in the process.

In response Murdoch University Melville Cricket Club lost Shanilka Fernando for 0 but Mustard led the way with an unbeaten 66* from 52 balls with nine fours and one six as he shared a second wicket stand off 112 with Yayha Ali.

Daniel Hogg picked up 2/14 at the end of day one in his West Australia Suburban clash for Western Suburbs Hola Health against Pentagon at College Park. Opening the bowling Hogg bowled 12 overs as Pentagon were bowled out for 187 in 50.3 overs. In reply Western Suburbs Hola Health were reduced 49/4 at the close on day one.

Mia Rogers top scored with 81 as Geelong cruised to a 98-run victory over Carlton in the Women’s Premier Firsts. Batting first, Geelong posted 255 from 48 overs, in a reduced overs game. The Geelong batters all got starts throughout the innings, but it was Rogers who helped the hosts finish their innings in a strong position. Carlton almost batted their full 48 overs, but they were bowled out with 5 balls to spare for 157 as Geelong remained their top spot in in the Women’s Premier Firsts.

England opened their 2026 ICC Men’s U19s World Cup campaign with a 37-run win against Pakistan in Harare as James Minto claimed two important wickets.

Caleb Falconer was named Player of the Match after the Middlesex batter top-scored with 66 as the Young Lions were dismissed for 210 on a two-paced wicket. The England bowlers then got to work in an impressive all-round display to bowl out Pakistan for 174 and take an important early step towards reaching the Super 6 stage.

Pakistan captain Farhan Yousaf threatened to steal the game away with a composed 65, that included four sixes, to leave his team needing 67 from the final 10 overs.

But Minto returned to the attack and immediately had him caught at third man by Manny Lumsden. Victory was then secured thanks to captain Thomas Rew’s quick reactions, removing the bails to run out last man Ali Raza, who had left his crease to avoid a throw from the deep.
