With pre-season now underway many of the Durham squad are spending their winter in sunnier climates playing overseas.
A regular feature on the Durham website throughout the winter will be recapping how the Durham players get on.
Ben Stokes starred with 5-23 and Brydon Carse removed the Aussie top order but England suffered a heavy defeat against Australia in the opening Ashes Test in Perth.
Stokes delivered a captain’s performance for England to bowl Australia out for 132 in response to England’s 172 all out.
In the second innings Brydon Carse and Gus Atkinson counterattacked for a 47-run partnership as England were bowled out for 164 but England went from a position of strength to a calamitous eight-wicket defeat on day two.
In the England Lions fixture against Cricket Australia XI, England suffered an 8 wicket defeat at Lilac Hill Park. Durham’s Emilio Gay, Ben McKinney and Matthew Potts all contributed across the week despite the Lions going down in their first official tour match.
Emilio Gay top-scored with 78 backed up by 42 for Ben McKinney as England Lions were bowled out for 299 – Potts claimed three wickets as the Durham seamer returned three for 48 from 17 overs. In the second innings Gay added 32 with McKinney rested with Gay moving up to top spot.

Mia Rogers helped Geelong to a 34-run win over Melbourne with the Durham wicket-keeper batter leading the way with 85 runs and three catches behind the stumps. Rogers top scored as her side amassed 213/8 from 44 overs. In reply Melbourne were bowled out for 179 with Rogers starring with the gloves.
Abi Glen top scored with 58 as South Perth enjoyed a 21-run win on DLS over Perth at Fletcher Park. South Perth batted first and posted 146 from 19 overs with Glen opening the batting, hitting nine fours from 43 balls. Glen opened the bowling but went wicketless from her three overs going for 26 runs.
Scotland Women made it three from three in the Emerging ICC League with a commanding 10 wicket win over the United Arab Emirates in Thailand. Scotland hammered the UAE by 10 wickets having bowled their opponents out for 93 with Katherine Fraser picking up 2/12 from 4 overs. In reply Scotland chased down 94 inside 15 overs.
2/18 from Mady Villiers helped Sydney Sixers to an 11 run win over Hobart Hurricanes to secure their third win over the campaign. The Sixers batted first and posted 147/9 before going onto bowl Hobart out for 136.
With the first Ashes Test underway in Perth, Daniel Hogg, Luke Robinson and Haydon Mustard weren’t in action this weekend, with no club cricket scheduled across the weekend.
