Day three abandoned due to rain

During the delay durhamccc.co.uk spoke to Chris Rushworth during the wait about his time in the team this year, “It’s pretty much been a dream come true to go from where I was last year to being in and around the squad and actually playing seven or eight games this season so it’s been very exciting.

“Whether it be because of injuries or a bit of bad luck on other players parts, it’s great to get the chance so it’s been a massive achievement. Every game I learn something new, it’s always good bowling with someone like Stephen Harmison at the other end with that experience you can learn from.  He’s always there to give advice and point me in the right direction, he’s been brilliant.

“To play with the likes of Michael Di Venuto and Dale Benkenstein, to be amongst those guys, you’re always getting some knowledge of the game, every game.  Everyone in the dressing room has stacks of experience and know so much about the game.

“Consistency is a big factor for me, I’ve got plans to go overseas in the winter and hopefully that’ll help me come back stronger and fitter and will help mentally too so I can try and get more games under my belt next year.  I think I’m going to go over to Paul Wiseman’s club over in New Zealand, there’s a chance to play first-class cricket for him over there so that would be great.

“As a bowler you need to keep your body on bowling fitness and playing all year round will definitely help.”
