Coughlin stars on mixed day for Seconds

Paul Coughlin scored 143 unbeaten runs across two games as the Second XI started their T20 campaign with one win and one defeat.

Coming in at number three after a knock of 52 in the previous game, the all-rounder struck a majestic 91* from 54 balls as Durham chalked up 191/5.

Graham Clark had the innings off to a flier but it was Coughlin and Calum MacLeod’s stand of 102 in ten overs that took the game away from the hosts at Edgbaston.

Coughlin struck 12 boundaries, including 3x6s, while MacLeod’s knock of 55 included five boundaries against his former side.

Two wickets from Jamie Harrison pegged Warwickshire back in pursuit of the large total and their momentum was interrupted by regular wickets.

Left-arm spinner Gurman Randhawa was the pick of the bowlers, taking 3/20 from his allotted four overs, and Harrison finished with 3/27 as they won by 35 runs.

In the earlier game, Coughlin and Muchall’s partnership wasn’t enough as the Bears took victory by 14 runs.

Three home batsmen scored quickfire 30s in reaching 157/6; Coughlin, Usman Arshad and Gavin Main all took two wickets apiece.
