Coetzer hundred secures win over Saltires

Dale Benkenstein was missing from the Dynamos line up in their Clydesdale Bank 40 clash against Scottish Saltires after pulling up in the warm up with a sore right knee.

The Dynamos were 9-1 after Phil Mustard (5) was caught at deep mid wicket trying to smash a Drummond delivery for 6.

Kyle Coetzer and Ben Stokes put on 79 with the latter caught at cover by Neil McCallum off Josh Davey for 35 in the 17th over, brining an in-form Gordon Muchall to the crease.

A confident display from Coetzer saw him reach 50 at a rate of a run a ball, including five boundaries.  Muchall (63) having scored his third fifty of the competition,  scooped the ball high up giving the keeper the chance to get in place to pick up the catch off Gordon Goudie leaving the Dynamos 200-3 in the 34th over.

Gordon Drummond claimed a second wicket when Will Smith was trapped lbw on 4. A 96 ball hundred from Coetzer including 11 boundaries contributed real substance to the Dynamos innings.

Stand in skipper Gareth Breese and Coetzer put on a rampant 78 in the final 5.4 overs with the former scoring 47 off just 18 deliveries and the visitors posting 278-4.

The Saltires got off to a quick start, but at the expense of two batsmen, with both opening bowlers claiming a wicket each within seven overs, Chris Rushworth bowling Calum MacLeod for 16 in the fourth over and Mark Wood claiming his first CB40 wicket, the scalp of Davey (10) who was caught behind.

The dismissal of Richard Berrington (5), who was caught at short mid wicket by Smith off Breese in the 12th over was followed by Mitchell Claydon striking with his second delivery of the match in the following over, which saw McCallum out lbw for 11, and the Saltires slumping to 66-4.

Preston Mommsen and Fraser Watts, whose fifty came off 62 balls and included five fours, steadied the ship adding 67 before the former was caught at short cover by Scott Borthwick for 38 in Stokes second over.

The hosts were 147-6 in the 26th over after Watts was caught at backward point by Coetzer off Borthwick on 62.
A cracking catch at deep mid wicket by Wood off Stokes saw Maiden dismissed for 15 and the Saltires 161-7.

Claydon claimed his second wicket in the 33rd over, with Haq caught by Ben Harmson for 15.  Coetzer featured in the dismissal of the two remaining batsmen, catching Goudie (7) off Rushworth and running out Drummond first ball with a direct hit.

The Dynamos win by 80 runs, claiming two points which puts them joint top of the group.
