Codi Yusuf joins Durham for County Championship stint

Durham Cricket are pleased to announce the signing of South African fast bowler Codi Yusuf for the Rothesay County Championship.

The signing of Yusuf comes on the back of a recent spate of injuries to bowlers within the Durham bowling attack, therefore the Club have acted quickly to bolster the bowling department.

Brydon Carse, Sam Conners, Paul Coughlin, Daniel Hogg, Luke Robinson, Stanley McAlindon, James Minto are all not available for selection.

With David Bedingham suffering a knock on the toe against Warwickshire resulting in a fracture, Yusuf will take on the second overseas role alongside Australian Brendan Doggett.

The South African is available for six rounds in the Rothesay County Championship beginning with the trip to Worcestershire and is also available for the Vitality Blast group stages.

A right-arm seamer, Yusuf arrives after his most successful first-class season to date- ending with 26 wickets in seven matches, including 4/46 in the CSA 4-day final as the Lions shared the trophy with the Titans.

Born in Western Cape, Yusuf made his debut for Johannesburg-based side Central Gauteng in 2019 and is closing in on 100 red ball wickets, taking a best of 6/49 against Dolphins in 2023.

Yusuf represented South Africa A over the winter, taking three wickets against Sri Lanka A and was part of the South African side that faced England Lions in December, shining with five wickets in their 284-run victory.

The 27-year-old has also spent time on the franchise circuit, playing for SA20 side Paarl Royals over two seasons and has 75 wickets in the white ball formats.

Director of Cricket, Marcus North said: “Codi joins us on the back of a successful domestic season in South Africa and will strengthen our bowling attack over the coming months.

“With a number of our seam bowlers not available due to injury it was important we acted quickly, and we have done that with the addition of Codi Yusuf.

“We look forward to welcoming Codi to Durham and watching him play a key part on the field in the coming weeks.”

Yusuf added: “I just want to thank Durham for giving me the opportunity to be part of their team for this season.

“It’s been a dream to play county cricket for me, so I find it extremely special to be part of Durham!

“I know there is some special players in the changing room as well so I’m immensely excited to meet the players and be part of what looks like a very great environment.”
