Claydon: My name is in the hat for first team place

On day 1 of Durham’s University match against Durham UCCE Mitch claimed the only wicket of the day finishing  the day’s play having taken 1-7 off 6 overs.  Despite the weather conditions causing the game to begin just after lunch and close early Claydon felt that the Durham attack had begun strongly.   “I think that we did well to restrain them to 100 off 40 overs because they have batted well .  We all stuck to our disciplines in the field.  We had a chat the other day and we think consistency as a group is important. ”

Mitch credits a lot of hard work in the winter for his current form and his success on Durham’s tour, “I just did everything that I had worked on during the winter.  I went back to Australia for a few months to try and change a few things, but mostly to work on my consistency, it’s been coming on well and I hope it continues”, said Claydon.
His dedication seems to be paying off, securing a place in Durham’s first eleven in the early matches of the season.   “It’s one of those sides that it’s quite tough to get into.  It’s a good side that does well.  I knew I had to do it [work hard] in pre season otherwise I would have been in the same place as I was last year, I’ve done everything I can now and my name is the hat.  I want to use this match to find my rhythm, get some more overs under my belt and continue what I’ve been doing – so far, so good”.
