Reflections of pride, partnership and pink as Breast Cancer Awareness Month comes to a close.
Becoming home to a Tier 1 women’s team last year brought Durham Cricket new opportunities and new responsibilities: not only to place women’s sport on a bigger platform, but also to champion the issues women face. This season, supporters, staff and sporting neighbours rose to that challenge, raising £4,149.10 for CoppaFeel!, the UK’s youth-focused breast cancer charity.
The centrepiece was Durham’s standalone women’s Vitality Blast fixture against Hampshire Hawks, which drew the club’s largest women’s standalone crowd to date. That evening also launched the first Women in Sport event, proudly featuring Newcastle United, Durham FC and Newcastle Eagles in a vibrant regional showcase.
Aztec generously sponsored CoppaFeel! t-shirts worn by commentators on Durham Live, event staff and ground staff. Spectators joined the sea of pink as the women’s team took the field in limited-edition CoppaFeel! shirts.
Further initiatives included a bra bunting display in the Members Lounge symbolising unity, plus fundraising through sales of the limited-edition shirts, raffles, bake sales, bucket collections, and a shirt auction.
We would like to thank our fans, partners, fellow female sports teams and CoppaFeel! for bringing heart to our Women in Sport event.
From bunting to bids, every contribution mattered.
