Carse, Coughlin steer Seconds home

Result: Durham 2nd XI (220/6; Carse 67*, Coughlin 52*; Conners 4/54) beat Derbyshire 2nd XI (218; McGladdery 102; Harding 3/37) by 4 wickets

An unbroken seventh wicket stand between Brydon Carse & Josh Coughlin steered Durham’s 2nd XI to victory against Derbyshire 2nd XI.

The pair put on 118 to save Alan Walker’s side after being 59/5 at one point in pursuit of 219 to win.

Carse first put on 53 with James Weighell, who hit a quickfire 39, before he & Coughlin calmly saw them to a second Trophy win in three.

Derbyshire had looked on course for a huge target at one stage following an opening stand of 124, with opener Tyler McGladdery going on to make a century.

But Durham’s bowlers dragged it back well, with spin duo George Harding & Ryan Pringle combining to put the brakes on through the middle.

Harding was the pick of the bowlers, taking 3/37 including that of McGladdery, while Pringle finished with figures of 2/30.

Durham’s reply faltered at the beginning before Carse, Weighell & then Coughlin restored order.
