Brian Hunt awarded Testimonial for 2009

The role of scorer is one that has brought him much pride, cumulating in Durham’s past season where they claimed the LV County Championship after just 17 years as a first class county.

Brian first scored for Durham when they were a minor county in 1975 and since then has seen the Club obtain first class status in 1992 before moving to their Riverside home in 1995.  Brian has thoroughly enjoyed seeing Riverside develop into a world class venue and has watched with delight as the Durham squad progressed into the Championship winning squad that the Club boasts today.

In the summer Brian scores for the first eleven and then spends his winters putting together the Club records and latest statistics for the Club Yearbook and updating the archives so that the Club has copies of all the Durham scorecards from its 125 year history.  Brian also maintains player records and can often be found at least once a week searching through the archives at County Hall in Durham searching for details on past players including minor counties players, long lost ‘Colts’ and Gentleman players.

On being awarded a Testimonial Year, Brian Hunt, said, “I am absolutely overwhelmed to be awarded a Testimonial Year – it is wonderful for the Club I am so proud to be part of, to allow me this great honour.”

Durham County Cricket Club Chief Executive, David Harker, said, “Brian’s contribution to Durham County Cricket Club should not be underestimated and we are delighted to agree to a Testimonial to recognise his work, not only as a our scorer, but as our archivist, roles in which he dedicates a great deal of time and passion.  We hope that our supporters get behind Brian’s Testimonial Year to show their appreciation of all his hard work.”

Commenting on Brian’s Testimonial, Tom Moffat, who will Chair the Testimonial committee, said, “Brian’s record as scorer is a remarkable one and I’m sure that there will be many Durham Members and followers that wish to support him by coming along to one of our events or by giving a donation.”

A diary of events celebrating Brian’s Testimonial Year will be available shortly.  Once confirmed details will be listed at www.durhamcricket.co.uk

All donations would be gratefully received and should be sent to ‘The Brian Hunt Testimonial Fund’, 11 Windermere Avenue, Chester le Street, County Durham DH2 3DU (Cheques should be made payable to ‘The Brian Hunt Testimonial Fund’)
