Boys’ under 14s get their first win in the County Cup with 10 wicket win over Cumbria

Durham boys’ under 14s got their ECB County Cup campaign underway with 10 wicket victory over Cumbria at Durham School.

Cumbria won the toss and elected to bat, putting 42 on for the first wicket when Hayden Smith was bowled for 5 by Andrew Stonehouse, in the 6th over.

Despite putting on 42 for the opening stand, Cumbria lost frequent wickets in the first 10 overs as the visitors were 3 down within the opening 10.

Opener Logan Edgar scored 21 before being caught and bowled to a one handed low catch by Zac Smith hitting 3 fours in his 21. Owen Alban added 29 from 56 balls but was run out as Cumbria were soon 128/8.

Leo Kelsall (14) and Sam Murdock (10) were the only two other Cumbrian batters to reach double figures as Cumbria were bowled out for 128 in 32.2 overs.

Jack Gaff (3/12) was the pick of the bowlers for Durham with Zac Smith and Tate both bagging 2 wickets apiece.

In search of their first win of the County Cup, Durham took just 20.1 overs with Thom Briggs leading the way with an unbeaten 62 backed by 48 from Jack Dalton, as Durham won by 10 wickets.
