Borthwick: We have ended the day in a good position

Ian Blackwell, Liam Plunkett and Scott Borthwick each picked up two wickets while Mitchell Claydon claimed the scalp of opener Ben Godleman and Chris Rushworth bowled Tony Palladino.

At the close of play Wright (10*) and Osborne (0*) were at the crease with 21 overs remaining from which to score bonus points for the hosts.

At the end of day one, Scott Borthwick said, “It has been a pretty good first day for us. We were a bit disappointed early on, but we did okay with the new ball. After lunch, Blackie and myself bowled nicely together and we have ended the first day in a good position.

“There have been some hard times along the way, some difficult games, but I feel I’m a much stronger player now than I was at the start of the season.

“It’s been really nice to be able to contribute with both bat and ball in our last couple of games and I feel I’ve improved. I’m learning all the time and while it hasn’t always been easy this year, I’ve enjoyed every minute of it.”
