Borthwick leads latest PCA rankings

Durham all-rounder Scott Borthwick is the new leader of the Professional Cricketers’ Association Most Valuable Player Rankings.

The 26-year-old impressed with bat and ball in this week’s drawn Specsavers County Championship match against Nottinghamshire at Trent Bridge where he took eight wickets, including his first five wicket haul in three years, and made his third century in five innings.

Borthwick, who warmed up for the English season with a successful stint playing for Wellington in New Zealand, took 37 batting and 20 bowling points from the Nottinghamshire, moving five points clear of Samit Patel in the PCA MVP table.

Borthwick scored 42 per cent of Durham’s first innings 447 and took two top four wickets in Nottinghamshire’s second innings which helped increase his haul of PCA MVP points.

He is the second Durham player this season to top the charts after Keaton Jennings’ twin hundreds against Somerset left him top after the opening round.

And fellow team mate Chris Rushworth is also reigning MVP after an outstanding 2015 saw him pick up the overall prize at the end of the season.

The PCA MVP was introduced in 2007 and is designed by the players to find the cricketers who really win matches by combining all aspects of a player’s performance to give a ranking in relation to his peers.
