Borthwick: It’s great to come into a team full of confidence

On his appearance Borthwick said, “It’s great to come into a team full of confidence. Blackwell and Breese both bowled fantastically at the start.  I came on at a nice time with Worcestershire seven wickets needing ten or 12 an over. I’ve got to thank Will Smith for that.

“I’ve worked hard in the second team on my one-day bowling and I’ve been with the (first-team) squad quite a bit this year.  I was in all the squads for the Twenty20 but I was just carrying drinks for the 10 (group) games. I was in the squad for the first two Pro40 games and luckily now I’ve got my chance.

“I’ve got to work hard in the second team, try and get my chance and when I do, do well.

Borthwick was on 12th man duties for the recent England Test Match against the West Indies along with team mate Karl Turner, a role which has been repeated in the current Ashes Series with both lads taking to the field against the Australians.
“It was a fantastic experience being around the England squad.  Mushtaq Ahmed is the spin coach so I was with him every morning bowling for two hours before the lads got there.

“It was fantastic for me to work with one of the world’s greatest leg-spinners.  I learned a lot of technical stuff and mental stuff. He was really good to work with.  Shane Warne also came over and said a few things. When he was watching me bowl I was really nervous.”
