Blackwell: We’re handily placed

“There was that air of trepidation I think, you’ve got a decent lead but not quite as convincing as we would perhaps would have liked at one stage, and especially when you have Fred opening the bowling and bowling really well.   Sajid had a point to prove aswell, bowling pretty fiery and obviously taking a few quick wickets so we were put on the backfoot pretty quickly.

“But I just went out hoping to play my natural game and then get the field changed and just try to accumulate runs quickly, as I normally do, and try and try and put the pressure back on  them, which fortunately worked, plus a bit of luck after being dropped on 17.

“It was a regulation catch behind, decent height and I was walking off it was one of those things and fortunately I managed to capitalise on it, which has put us in a pretty decent position for tomorrow.”

With 18 wickets falling throughout the day the bowlers were in the spotlight and delivering results with only 8 batsmen reaching double figures.

“It’s a combination of almost world class bowling to a certain extent from decent .  I mean, there are four quality fast bowlers on show, the ball swung aswell, which helps, and the pitch is offering  a bit of seam movement and all those combinations make for hard work for batters and you’ve really got to knuckle down and earn your runs”, said Blackwell.

“The game is obviously going forwards and we’re handily placed 250 in front.  It’s the teams like Lancashire that are obviously going to be challenging at the end of the season, we feel that they’re a quality side and if we can send a message to the rest of the teams around the country by convincingly beating Lancashire that has got to be a good thing for the team”, he added.
