Benkenstein breaks highest run scorer record

“Coming here there was pressure just arriving, there were a lot of factors coming into the game which could make it very interesting, to win by five wickets looks like it was pretty easy but those people watching know it was on a knife’s edge most of the way through the whole game, so it was a massive win for us”, said Benkenstein.

“It wasn’t ideal to lose those three wickets last night but if you want to win a game against a side that should be almost equal to you then it’s going to be tough. We have been batting well all the way down the order so we were confident that we had the batting to do it, it was just a case of doing it under pressure.

“I was aware of the record but it was nice to do it in this kind of game because the focus was on trying to win the match. It wasn’t until after the game that I realised I had actually passed it and it’s a special thing for me. Durham has been an amazing part of my career.

“I love playing cricket, it’s all I’ve ever done and Durham gave me that chance to continue playing so I’m always grateful for that. I want to keep playing for as long as I’m fit and contributing”, he added.
