Academy storm to GULF Cup glory

Durham’s Academy side put in an exemplary performance to run out winners in the under-17 GULF Cup final in Sharjah.

They recovered from a shaky start to race towards the 142 runs required with 20 balls in hand against Victoria Cricket Academy.

VCA could only make 141/6 from their 25 overs thanks largely to an outstanding display of bowling from Lucas Parry.

He took 4/10 from four overs, including a maiden, to instigate a collapse from 68/1 to 82/6 having earlier ran out the other opener, Deepak Raj.

They were indebted to some late hitting in an unbroken seventh wicket stand of 59 to help them up to a respectable score.

Durham slipped to 13/3 in reply but a composed partnership between Robbie Dawson & Harry Crawshaw eased them back into contention in a stand of 73.

Dawson largely dominated the scoring in making a quickfire 45 off 32 balls & Crawshaw helped close proceedings out, finishing unbeaten on 52.

Tom Ward (25*) helped Crawshaw to see things through in a 60-run partnership to seal victory in the UAE.
