Academy endure mixed start

Durham’s Academy side have endured a mixed start to the 2018 North East Premier League season after their fourth match at the weekend.

John Windows’ side have a winning draw, a losing draw & two defeats under their belts after the opening four weeks.

The opening week saw an early frontrunner for performance of the season, with trialist wicketkeeper Ryan Davies smashing 147 against neighbours Chester-le-Street at Ropery Lane.

The Academy declared on 223/9 but a 142-run opening stand set the hosts on their way to an eight-wicket win.

A week later at Emirates Riverside, a Felling side containing former Durham batsman Phil Mustard held them to a draw, with the last pair holding out to reach 108/9 off 54 overs.

It was the Academy’s turn to frustrate a week later, finishing seven down to earn a draw at South Northumberland, while they fell to a 93-run defeat to Hetton Lyons at the weekend, again at Emirates Riverside.

Their T20 campaign begins this Friday against Burnopfield.
