5 Academy players selected for ECB Super4s

Durham Cricket are thrilled to confirm that 5 academy cricketers have been selected to represent the North of England at the ECB Super4s.

The annual tournament, held at Loughborough University sees talented Under 18 year olds from across the country compete in a regional tournament in both 50 over and T20 cricket, with the North going up against the Midlands, South & West and London & East across five days.

Stanley Mcalindon, Ben McKinney, Mitchell Killeen, Dan Hogg and Ross Whitfield have been selected for the North region.

McAlindon who made his Durham First-class debut against Derbyshire this week claimed 2 wickets in the first innings and is Durham’s leading wicket taker in the 2XI Championship with 18 wickets.

Top order batter Ben McKinney who plays his club cricket at Hetton Lyons has scored 445 North East Premier League runs so far this campaign with a best of 63 against Tynemouth, while he scored 100 against Surrey in the 2XI Championship.

Right arm seamer Mitchell Killeen who plays his club cricket at Burnopfield is also selected having picked up 19 wickets in the North East Premier League and 13 for Durham Seconds, while Durham City right arm seamer Daniel Hogg also makes the North squad.

Ross Whitfield who made his Second team debut last month against Yorkshire is also named in the North squad having scored 81 in his third game for the 2s against Lancashire, with 205 runs to his name in the North East Premier League with Sunderland.

Durham Cricket Academy Director John Windows will be in attendance working with the North as an Assistant Coach to Lancashire’s Talent Performance Manager Chris Benbow.

Windows said: “It’s always a proud achievement when Durham players are chosen to represent the North. It’s an exciting week and the 5 lads from Durham will get a chance to perform against players from across the country. I wish them all the best and I’m sure they’ll benefit from this week.”

Super4s gets underway next Monday [18 July] running through until Friday 15 July.
