5 Academy players selected for ECB Super4s

Durham Cricket are thrilled to confirm that 5 boys’ academy cricketers have been selected to represent the North of England at the ECB Super4s.

The annual tournament, held at Loughborough University sees talented Under 18-year olds from across the country compete in a regional tournament in both 50 over and T20 cricket, with the North going up against the Midlands, South & West and London & East across five days.

Daniel Hogg, Sebastian Hughes Pinan, Charlie Scorer, Haydon Mustard and George Darwood have been selected for the North region.

Tall quick bowler Daniel Hogg has impressed for Durham 2XI this season with 14 wickets in the Championship and is currently the leading wicket-taker in the twos. Hogg also has 13 wickets for North East Premier League side Burnopfield with a best of 4/18 in a win over Hetton Lyons.

Sebastian Hughes Pinan who plays his club cricket at Chester le Street, made his 2XI Championship debut against Lancashire at Burnopfield and has enjoyed a successful campaign for Durham under 18s. The left-arm orthodox bowler is the leading wicket taker for Durham under 18s with 17 poles which includes a best of 4/32 against Lancashire.

Wicket-keeper batter Haydon Mustard is also selected; he has scored 311 runs for Durham under 18s top scoring with 89 against Lancashire and has 13 catches and 7 stumpings.

17-year-old leg spinner Charlie Scorer who is part of the Durham emerging players programme also makes the North squad. Scorer who plays his club cricket at NYSD side Hartlepool has a best of 6/18 against Whitby earlier this summer.

Durham Cricket Academy Director John Windows will be in attendance working with the North as an Assistant Coach to Lancashire’s Talent Performance Manager Chris Benbow and Yorkshires 2XI Assistant Coach James Lowe.

Windows said: “It’s always a proud achievement when Durham players are chosen to represent the North. It’s an exciting week and the 4 lads from Durham will get a chance to perform against players from across the country. I wish them all the best and I’m sure they’ll benefit from this week.”

Super4s gets underway next Monday [17 July] running through until Friday 21 July.
