13 player-squad named for home return against Worcestershire

Durham Head Coach Ryan Campbell has named a 13-player squad for tomorrow’s LV=Insurance County Championship match against Worcestershire at Seat Unique Riverside.

Campbell’s side will be looking to bounce back from last week’s loss to Sussex with the Seagulls pipping Durham by 2 wickets in a tight affair at Hove.

Brydon Carse drops out of the squad having been rested by the ECB in order to manage his workload with Liam Trevaskis omitted from the 13.

New Dutch signing Brandon Glover is added to the 13 and if selected on Thursday, the right-arm quick could be in line to make his Durham first-class debut.

Scott Borthwick missed the game last week at Sussex having sustained a finger injury but is expected to play this week and captain the side.

Durham face a Worcestershire side who won their opening game of the LV=Insurance County Championship with an 8-wicket victory over Derbyshire at the Incora County Ground.

Words from Scott Borthwick

The Sussex game was a real thriller, and it was really frustrating to lose that one. I was down there watching on from the side and it felt like we played all the right cricket, apart from that period on day 3 and we were probably the better side. Even though we had that 40 run lead the game was still in the balance right until the end – we can look back and say first innings we should have gone on and scored 400 and we had plenty of opportunities in the game to do that.

We just missed out on day 4 but the lads said after the game if we play cricket this way throughout the season, we will win more games than we lose. We have to be proud of the efforts, take things away from the game and put a few things right starting with Worcestershire tomorrow. Worcestershire will be confident from their win against Derbyshire last week, but we know we played some good cricket last week and know if we perform, we can put things right.
