Durham will be looking to bounce back when they travel to Southampton tomorrow [11am] to take on Hampshire in round five of the Metro Bank One Day Cup.
Ryan Campbell has named a 13-player squad which includes one change to the 14 which traveled to York on Friday as Alex Lees is rested and drops out of the 13 named.
As outlined at the beginning of the tournament, senior players will be rested throughout this competition as they manage workload ahead of the return of the County Championship in August.
Durham sit third in Group B with three wins from their opening four games while Hampshire are in fifth place with eight points.
Hampshire are without eight players to the Hundred with Liam Dawson, Sonny Baker, James Vince, Scott Currie, Chris Wood, Ben Mayes, Eddie Jack and Manny Lumsden all on franchise duty.
Durham remain without Sam Conners (back), Archie Bailey (quad) and Daniel Hogg (wrist) as they continue to be monitored by the Durham Cricket Medical team.
Words from Ryan Campbell
In York, unfortunately we didn’t bat so well against Yorkshire. There was some very good bowling. But I will put my hand up, we definitely misread the wicket. We didn’t think it was going to be a nibbler, that’s for sure, after being a used wicket.
It was a tough first 10 overs. I’ve watched Graham Clark for a lot of his career. For him to be one off 30 balls, that’s saying it was ridiculously hard. Yorkshire are pretty much playing their whole red-ball bowling line-up, and they’re very good in these conditions. Coad was outstanding, so was Hill.
The beauty of this competition is that you don’t get much time to stew on the losses and get excited about the wins because we’re straight on the bus down to Hampshire and we’ll be looking to bounce back.
Squad v Hampshire (2 August)
Colin Ackermann, Kasey Aldridge*,Graham Clark, George Drissell, Emilio Gay, Shafiqullah Ghafari, James Minto, Haydon Mustard, Duanne Olivier, Will Rhodes, Luke Robinson, Ollie Robinson+, Ben Stokes.
Opposition Corner
Captain: Nick Gubbins
2025 Position: Runners-up
2025 Most Runs: Nick Gubbins (707)
2025 Most Wickets: Eddie Jack (13)
Why they can win the competition: Hampshire have reached the knockout stage in each of the past four years – losing the final twice. Their XI will be full of dependable know-how, plus an exciting Indian overseas in Ashutosh Sharma.
Player to watch: Nick Gubbins was the competition’s leading run scorer last year and will be targeting a similar return. He and Ali Orr consistently set the tone with the bat in 2025, while his captaincy has matured over the past four campaigns.
Young gun: Experience is the name of the game for Hampshire, but 19-year-old Oliver Williams could get some game time. The right-arm quick is tall, skilful and has shown good promise in the Second XI this season.
Final thought: Will it be the struggling Rothesay County Championship Hampshire or the consistently great Vitality T20 Blast Hampshire that turns up in the Metro Bank One-Day Cup? After two silver medals in three years, expectations are high that it’ll be the latter.
Match Centre
The Club’s match centre will be in operation for the fixture with live scorecards, statistics & video highlights as they happen. You can watch the game live via Durham’s match centre and the Hampshire Cricket YouTube channel.
