13 heading to the West Midlands as Durham take on Warwickshire

Durham Women will be looking to get their season back on track when they travel to the West Midlands to take on Warwickshire tomorrow at Edgbaston. [10:30am]

Dani Hazell has named a 13 player squad as Durham look for their second win in the Metro Bank One Day Cup.

After defeat against The Blaze last time out on Saturday afternoon Durham have dropped to bottom spot in the division with six points from six games.

Durham head to the Midlands to face a Bears side who sit just above them in the table, with Alistair Maiden’s side two spots above Durham having won two, lost two and had one rained off.

Lauren Filer is now with England ahead of their Metro Bank One Day International series against New Zealand which gets underway at Banks Homes Riverside on Sunday.

Harriet Robson remains in contention to make her Durham List A debut having not yet featured since putting pen to paper on her first rookie deal during the winter.

Phoebe Turner misses out with injury, while Leah Dobson and Mia Rogers are named in the England Women’s Development Squad to take on New Zealand Women at Banks Homes Riverside on Wednesday – which is available to watch live on Durham Cricket YouTube channel.

Squad v Warwickshire (6 May)

Hollie Armitage*, Katherine Fraser, Abi Glen, Bess Heath, Trudy Johnson, Katie Levick, Emma Marlow, Harriett Robson, Grace Thompson, Sophia Turner, Mady Villiers, Tahlia Wilson, Emily Windsor.

Words from Dani Hazell

There’s no hiding behind it that’s not good enough [Blaze loss]. I think the first 10 overs of the game is exactly what we’ve been striving for. To be honest they had a really good partnership, but we had them where we wanted them and we weren’t clinical in them moments.

We tried to do something a little different with spin to give us that control. Trudy (Johnson) has come in the last two games and has been really good. Yeah we had our moment but we slipped up from that point.

At the start of the game you’d take 240 on a really good wicket, there was no demons in there. We just got ourselves into a hole with the bat and looked to try and get out of it with two batters and two really good contributions. But all in all, not good enough for the battle.

We move forward fast in this competition we head to Warwickshire on Wednesday; we have to dust ourselves off and go again at Edgbaston.

Opposition Corner

Captain: Georgia Davis

Head coach: Ali Maiden

2025 finish: 7th

2025 highest run-scorer: Abbey Freeborn (403)

2025 highest wicket-taker: Georgia Davis (23)

Winter moves: The Bears have signed all-rounders Mary Taylor from Hampshire, and Alex Stonehouse on loan from Surrey, while spinner Phoebe Brett has signed her first rookie contract. Aussie wicketkeeper-batter Georgia Redmayne, signed for the T20 tournament, will play three 50-over games before the Vitality Blast.

The big question: Can Warwickshire translate their impressive 20-over cricket from last season into the longer format? Having signed players who will strengthen the team in all departments and, crucially, bring experience to what is still a largely young squad, the Bears have the potential to challenge in the longer game in 2026.

Player to watch:  Phoebe Brett – the 17-year-old left-armer is the latest addition to a spin attack of enviable depth and variety and impressed when her opportunities came along last season. Her control and wicket-taking skills have drawn comparison with Sophie Ecclestone.

Final thought: Last season, Warwickshire found themselves playing catch-up too often as the powerplays at the start of each innings went against them. Their skills shone in the T20. Taking wickets up front with the ball and not losing wickets in the powerplay has been a big focus in the pre-season preparation.

Match Centre

The Club’s match centre will be in operation for the fixture with live scorecards, statistics & video highlights as they happen. You can watch the game live via Warwickshire YouTube channel. Durham Cricket will have full coverage on social media, with a full match report at the close.
