Great North Run with Durham Cricket Foundation
Join Durham Cricket Foundation at the Great North Run and help us continue our work with long-term patients at the Great North Children’s Hospital.
Spending long periods in the hospital takes a great deal of strength for any child. For children undergoing treatment, simple moments of fun can spark the hope needed to keep pushing forward. Durham Cricket Foundation delivers these moments at the Great North Children’s Hospital through interactive sports and educational sessions that brighten their day.
Supporting the Foundation through the Great North Run can help ensure these sessions continue for a seventh consecutive year, helping many more children, with the project trebling its reach and delivery to three times more patients recently.
More about the project:
Durham Cricket Foundation’s sessions at the Great North Children’s Hospital offer much more than just an introduction to sport. They are an uplifting outlet for children facing prolonged medical treatments, providing them with physical exercise, social interaction and a vital sense of normality. One patient who benefitted from these sessions shared:
“Thanks to your competitive, enjoyable and genuine sessions you have not only made me enjoy cricket: a sport I would have never thought of even trying, but helped my recovery massively and I’m very appreciative of that.”
About the Great North Children's Hospital
Renowned for its high-quality care, the Great North Children’s Hospital is one of only 14 major children’s medical centres in the UK.
Annually 32,000 children attend as inpatients and the Hospital Foundation is committed to supporting the children and their families who come for treatment and care, making their experience the best it possibly can be.
As part of that, Durham Cricket Foundation is proud to work with the Hospital to support children enduring lengthy stays. For them, the sessions we run become a highlight of their week—something to anticipate and enjoy.
By taking part in the Great North Run with the Durham Cricket Foundation, you’ll be instrumental in keeping these sessions going and growing, reaching even more children who need them.
Fundraising Target
We ask each runner to aim to raise £300, which will go towards the project in full.
With a £30 registration fee, you will receive a Durham Cricket Foundation running top and continuing fundraising and training support in return.
