Durham Cricket are saddened to announce the passing of Ian Malcolm Howie.
Ian was appointed to the Board of Durham County Cricket Club on 16 December 1994. The appointment came only a few years after Durham achieved first-class status and during the period when the Riverside ground was being established.
In 1996 he was alongside Professor Ray Scorer and others, instrumental in forming the Durham Cricket Society. He was elected as the first Chairman and served 27 years until the society ceased operations in 2025.
He was appointed to the ECB Cricket Discipline Committee in 1997, retiring in 2016.
During 2025 Ian was awarded a Life Vice Presidency for services to Durham County Cricket Club.
Ian died on 2 June, and his funeral will be held on Wednesday 24 June at West Road Crematorium Newcastle at 11am.
