Durham Women’s Academy got their season underway with a comprehensive 138 run win over Durham University Women at Maiden Castle.
Having lost the toss, Durham were asked to bat first which looked to be a good decision from the hosts as the Academy side were reduced to 32/4.
Skipper Charlotte Stubbs headed to the middle and led the Durham Academy revival sharing a 74-run stand with Laura Trotter before Trotter fell for 30.
Stubbs was key for Durham leading the way with the bat with an unbeaten 92 from 87 balls with five fours as she helped Durham post 202 from their 40 overs.
Ava Broady added an important 30 as Hannah Wooldridge (2/21) was the pick of the bowlers for the students.
In reply Durham were on top from the off with the University struggling to get any momentum going, continuing to lose wickets throughout the innings.
The home side were reduced to 29/5, 29/6 then 38/7 as each of the Durham bowlers contributed.
Freya Rook (3/2) was the pick of the bowlers as Amelie Butterwick and Naomi Silva claimed two wickets each.
