Durham’s Emilio Gay top-scored with 78 backed up by 42 for Ben McKinney as England Lions were bowled out for 299 on the opening day of their tour match against a Cricket Australia XI at Lilac Hill in Perth.
Tom Hartley then struck with the final ball of the day, claiming a return catch from Australia Test squad member Josh Inglis, as the hosts reached 56 for one.
After winning the toss Lions captain Tom Haines (38) added 72 for the first wicket with Ben McKinney (42). Durham left-hander Gay then took centre stage striking eight boundaries and a six before he was bowled by Nivethan Radhakrishnan. Jordan Cox added a quickfire 40, from 38 balls, with Jack Sinfield and Caelan Maladay claiming three wickets each for the CA XI.
Inglis was a late call-up for the hosts after he missed selection to Australia’s first Ashes Test squad at Optus Stadium and crashed 40 from 37 balls before Hartley struck in his only over.
