Luis Reece 166 leads Derbyshire to 1 wicket win at Repton School

Day 4 – Derbyshire 241 & 346/9 beat Durham 432/8 dec & 151/5 dec by 1 wicket 

A fine 166 from Luis Reece backed by a late 45 not out from Harry Canton saw Derbyshire win by 1 wicket in a thriller at Repton School in the ECB 2XI Championship  

Durham upped the rate on the final day, going at almost 7 runs an over the for the early part of the morning session, as they resumed the morning on 68/3 leading by 259.

Graham Clark and Jonathan Bushnell put on 50 for the 4th wicket in 64 balls, with Clark shortly bringing up his half century in 56 balls with 9 fours and 1 six. Clark fell for 56 with Bushnell finishing not out on 48 before Durham declared setting Derbyshire 343 to win from 82 overs.

Mitchell Killeen struck first ball of the second over bowling Oliver Soames who left one and was clean bowled for 1.

Both the Derbyshire openers were soon back in the pavilion as Brydon Carse struck in his third over with the Derbyshire man caught at cover to Graham Clark for 3.

The hosts added 69 for the 4th wicket, before Kishen Velani chipped one up to Brydon Carse who was caught and bowled for 28.

Luis Reece continued his fine form from the first innings bringing up his 50 in 75 balls as the left hander put on 50 with Josh Lacey.

Lacey soon brought up his 50 but skipped up the wicket, mistimed the ball and was caught by Brydon Carse, as George Drissell struck.

Drissell then struck in back-to-back overs to reduce Derbyshire to 244/7 and still needing 99 to win; however Reece brought up his century in the meantime coming in 141 balls with 12 fours and 1 six.

Reece continued to lead the way as Derbyshire edged towards victory but he fell for an outstanding 166 caught behind to Stanley McAlindon.

Akhter was the new man in but was trapped lbw first ball, however Harry Canton scored an unbeaten 49 with 4 fours to see Derbyshire over the line to win by 1 wicket with 4 overs left in the day.

George Drissell claimed 3/118 with Carse and McAlindon both picking up 2 apiece.

Durham return to action against Yorkshire at Harrogate on Monday in two T20 friendly fixtures.

Day 3 – 432/8 dec & 68/3 lead Derbyshire 241 by 259 runs 

Rain disrupted most of day 3 for Durham Seconds fixture against Derbyshire at Repton School.

George Drissell bagged the first wicket of the morning when he clean bowled Nick Potts for 5, with Luis Reece falling shortly after with Brydon Carse striking as he chipped one up which nearly gave Carse a chance of a caught and bowled – but Graham Clark took the catch.

Akhter and Caton added 44 for the 9th wicket, showing resistance against the Durham bowling attack but Mitchell Killeen instantly struck with the new ball to dismiss Caton lbw for 16.

Michael Cohen lasted just 4 balls as Carse grabbed his second wicket with Derbyshire being bowled out for 241 and Durham leading by 191.

Durham lost Michael Jones first ball of the Durham reply caught behind for 0 to Nick Potts. Ben McKinney (14) and Harry Crawshaw (19) also fell cheaply, with Durham closing day 3 on 68/3 leading by 259 with 7 wickets in hand. Graham Clark closed unbeaten on 24*.

Day 2 – Durham 432/8 dec lead Derbyshire 157/6  by 275 runs

Durham are in a strong position at the close on day 2 at Repton School with the hosts 6 down and trailing by 275 runs. 

Resuming on 336/4 and Bushnell and Carse out in the middle, Bushnell failed to add to his overnight score as he feathered one behind for 134 to Nick Potts.

Brydon Carse continued where he left off on day 2, hitting 5 fours before being caught behind for a well made 133 from 219 balls.

Luke Doneathy was unbeaten on 23 backed by 33 from Tom Mackintosh, when Durham declared on 432/8 from 135 overs.

By the close of play Durham had taken 6 Derbyshire wickets as Mitchell Killeen struck early to dismiss Oliver Soames lbw for 2.

The Durham bowlers were on top throughout, as Killeen and Drissell both claimed two wickets, while  Bushnell and McAlindon also bagged 1 each.

Louis Reece remained unbeaten at the close with 64 from 136 balls, as Derbyshire closed on 157/6  from 54.2 overs.

Day 1 – Durham 336/4

Jonathan Bushnell and Brydon Carse both scored unbeaten centuries on day 1 of their ECB 2XI Championship match against Derbyshire at Repton School.

Bushnell and Carse shared a 5th wicket stand of 231 taking Durham to 336/4 at the close of play and rounding off a strong day with the bat.

The hosts won the toss and asked Durham to bat at the school ground, as Michael Jones and Ben McKinney put on 48 for the first wicket.

Both openers fell in back-to-back overs for 22 and 24 each followed by Harry Crawshaw lbw for 20 and Graham Clark for 18.

Bushnell and Carse came together at 105/4 with the Durham duo both scoring unbeaten centuries. Bushnell the first to reach three figures in 198 balls with 13 fours and 1 six, with Carse bringing up his 100 in 167 balls with 13 fours.

The pair will resume tomorrow with Bushnell (134*) and Carse (107*) unbeaten for Durham.

Nick Potts (2/81), Cohen (1/77) and Akhter (1/69) all struck for Derbyshire.
