Close, Day One; Durham (208/8 declared; S.Steel 51, Harte 35 Robson 32; Ball 2/37, Patterson-White 2/44) lead Nottinghamshire (Slater 74*, Nash 49*) by 63 runs.

Nottinghamshire seconds are in a strong position against Durham at the close of play on day one of their two day friendly at Lady Bay Cricket Club.

Having won the toss, Durham opted to bat against a Notts side that included Jake Ball, Luke Fletcher and Steven Mullaney.

It was a case of spending time in the middle for the Durham players, as Gareth Harte (35) off 61 balls and Angus Robson (32) off 55 balls, batted through the morning session.

Robson fell to former Durham cricketer Paul Coughlin and Harte departed off the bowling of Lyndon James, as Durham were 116/4 at lunch.

Scott Steel scored a spirited 51 from 58 balls hitting seven fours and one six, supported by Ben Raine (22) and Michael Jones (19), Durham declaring on 208/8 from 59.5 overs.

Gareth Harte got the only breakthrough on day 1 as he had Jake Libby caught behind by Ned Eckersley for 20, but Ben Slater (74) and Chris Nash (49) remain unbeaten going into tomorrow.

Nottinghamshire trail by 63 runs with nine wickets remaining.
