Stokes back to face the Rapids

England all-rounder Ben Stokes returns for his second Durham Jets appearance of the season against Worcestershire Rapids at Emirates Riverside tomorrow (6:30pm start).

The 27-year-old will don the Jets’ red & black for the second time in Vitality Blast 2018 after striking an unbeaten 90 against Yorkshire Vikings in the opening match.

With a break in England fixtures until the Test series begins against India, Stokes has been made available for this fixture & the Specsavers County Championship match against Gloucestershire. Mark Wood is available for the latter match but will not play tomorrow evening.

Stokes replaces Paul Collingwood in the squad. Collingwood is rested due to soreness in his achilles.

The Jets come into the match after impressive back-to-back away victories against Birmingham Bears & Notts Outlaws.

Another impressive crowd is expected at Emirates Riverside after a huge turnout against the Vikings last week, with kids admitted free of charge for this fixture.

Last Time Out

Durham Jets (165/5; Latham 62, Richardson 49*) beat Worcestershire Rapids (152/5; Barnard 34*, Cox 34; Jennings 2/21) by 13 runs

The margin of victory made it look slightly less convincing for Durham Jets when, in truth, they were in control throughout much of the T20 Blast contest at Emirates Riverside last season.

Tom Latham, who fell two short of becoming Durham’s second T20 centurion on Tuesday night, led the way with 62 as Durham posted 165/5.

Michael Richardson also provided late impetus, falling one shy of his half century.

Ben Cox managed a few early boundaries but the Rapids batsmen struggled to get over a run-a-ball throughout most of the innings, stifled by Keaton Jennings’ medium pace.

Ed Barnard’s late flurry of boundaries helped boost the score but the Jets were always in command & recorded victory.
