Benkenstein steers Dynamos to victory

Carnegie captain Andrew Gale won the toss and elected to bat first but the Durham attack managed to restrict the visitors to just 131 -8  from their 20 overs, with Albie Morkel, Ben Harmison and Ian Blackwell claiming two wickets apiece.

Excellent catches from Ben Harmison and Scott Borthwick ensured that Mitchell Claydon and Liam Plunkett each picked up a wicket too.

Dynamos openers Phil Mustard and Ian Blackwell added one run to the total, with both dismissed in the early stages bringing Ross Taylor and Dale Benkenstein to the middle.  The pair went on to contribute a hundred partnership from 66 balls in the 13th over.

Taylor was caught behind off Rashid on 49 but Benkenstein went on to record his highest individual t20 score, 57*, and with Albie Morkel (17*) alongside him guided Durham to victory.

Dale Benkenstein spoke to durhamccc.co.uk after the game, “They got off to a good start but in the middle, where we haven’t really nailed it in other games, we were really good.

“The bowlers changed their pace and we fielded well.  We’re never going to be an outstandin fielding side but we’re pretty solid.  It was the good performance in the field that set up the win.

“Whenever you lose early wickets you’re under pressure but we just thought we had to make the most of the first six overs so we kept the momentum going and luckily got a good partnership which pretty much finished off the game.”
