Wood, Stokes receive England call

Mark Wood & Ben Stokes have received call-ups to England’s One-Day International squad to face Australia in the New Year.

Wood has also been named as part of a 12-man England squad to face a Cricket Australia XI in Perth starting on Saturday.

The pace bowler is one of two additions to the squad that defeated West Indies 4-0 in September’s home series.

Stokes’ involvement remains subject to any legal or disciplinary developments in relation to the incident in Bristol in September. He is currently playing for New Zealand side Canterbury in the 50-over Ford Trophy.

But Wood will have chance to impress the selectors ahead of the third Test at the WACA in the warm-up match this weekend.

The team, to be captained by Moeen Ali, includes five players who did not feature in the second Test defeat at Adelaide alongside five more from England Lions’ touring side.
