Durham Women share the points with Yorkshire as rain prevents any play in Chester-le-Street

Durham and Yorkshire were thwarted by the weather during an incredibly frustrating afternoon at Banks Homes Riverside, with both sides taking two points as the women’s Vitality Blast reached its halfway mark.

Constant rain showers and the threat of heavier delayed the regular 2.30pm start in the North East before a 3pm start was planned with no loss of overs.

Captains Hollie Armitage and Lauren Winfield-Hill arrived in the middle for the toss at 2.45pm, only for that to be aborted by more rain.

They did toss up at 3.15pm ahead of a 3.30pm start – 17 overs per side – with Durham skipper Armitage winning it and electing to bowl.

But just as the game was about to start, the rain returned and got heavier.

Umpires Ant Harris and Simon Widdup abandoned the game at 4.35pm.

These two sides meet again here next Wednesday in the Metro Bank One-Day Cup.
