Wicketz Hartlepool

Wicketz is a free community cricket programme that uses the power of cricket to make a difference in young people’s lives. Aimed at 8–19 year olds living in areas with limited access to sport, Wicketz creates regular opportunities to play, learn and grow through weekly cricket sessions held in local community settings.

The programme is designed to break down barriers and reach young people who might not otherwise get the chance to take part in the game. Sessions focus on developing cricket skills in a fun and inclusive environment, while also exploring themes such as teamwork, communication, leadership and resilience. Alongside the sport, participants take part in workshops and discussions that help build confidence and broaden their horizons, whether that’s learning about healthy lifestyles, exploring future opportunities or developing life skills they can carry beyond the pitch.

Wicketz in Hartlepool is part of a national programme run by the Lord’s Taverners, a leading cricket charity that uses the game to empower young people and bring communities together. Locally, the programme plays an important role in creating a space where young people can connect with others and be active.

The Wicketz programme in Hartlepool is delivered by the Durham Cricket Foundation. Our team of qualified coaches and community staff lead weekly sessions and events, working closely with schools, community groups and local partners to ensure the programme has a lasting impact. Through this work, we’re building stronger community links and offering young people a positive, long-term pathway into sport and personal development.
