Oliver Gibson

Academy graduate Oliver Gibson made three appearances for Durham during the 2023 season, with all coming in the Metro Bank One Day Cup.

He picked up two wickets in the three games which included skittling former Pakistan international Azhar Ali against Worcestershire and dismissing Fynn Hudson-Prentice for 65 against Sussex.

A product of Durham’s pathway and academy teams, Oliver Gibson first burst onto the Durham scene at under-15s level as a promising fast bowler, which has seen him continue to go from strength to strength since then.

His first-class debut came in just the second game of the 2022 campaign as Oliver had a day to remember as he claimed his maiden first-class wicket to mark an encouraging performance with the ball in difficult conditions – as he had George Rhodes caught behind for 23.

Making his debut against Leicestershire, Gibson played a further 6 first-class games picking up 8 wickets through the red ball campaign.

After also making his List A debut against Surrey at Gosforth, he played another 6 50 over games taking 11 wickets. His best of 3/54 came against Somerset at Taunton as he went at just over 6 throughout the competition.

His success for Durham at under-17s level saw Oliver selected for the ECB under-17 SuperFours in 2018, striking with figures of 5/44 from 10 overs against the South and West at Loughborough University.
