Under-14 Boys beat Kent in Taunton festival opener

Durham Under-14 Boys (227/9; Brown 52, Whitfield 47) beat Kent (111; Lockhart 35, Brown 4/11, Hedley 3/21) by 116 runs.

Durham U14 Boys opened their Taunton festival tour off with a 116-run victory over Kent at Kings College. Having been asked to bat Durham started brightly in putting a target on the board as Ben McKinney (20) and Callum Brown (52) helped Durham to 87 for the first wicket.

Ross Whitfield added 47 from 67 balls before he was ran out by Liam McGroarty just shy of his half century, backed by 19 from Owen Butler and 16 from George Fairbairn as Durham closed their 50 overs on 227/9.

Bodhi de Moubray struck with 2/44 from 9 overs, while Ruben Coleman and Wangoo both picked up one wicket apiece.

Durham got off to the best possible start, as Callum Brown dismissed the Kent openers for nought and twelve to leave the Canterbury side 19/2.

Jack Hedley was key for Durham in the middle overs as he claimed three for 21 from six overs, taking the wicket of Luke Beaumont for 18.

Callum Brown then finished off where he started to dismiss the final two Kent batsman, as they were bowled out for 111 in 33.4 overs. Owen Butler (2/19) also struck.
