The contractors are installing a series of sand slits between the drains, which were installed last year. The purpose of the slits is to allow water from the surface of the outfield to transfer to drains more effectively.
The aim is to ensure the ‘new outfield’ achieves water infiltration rates specified by the ECB and means play should be able to start more quickly after periods of rain.
Once the sand slits are completed the whole outfield will have a sand top dressing applied and will be reseeded. It is hoped the works will be completed in the next two weeks, weather permitting.
